Beatris Garcia is a Postgraduate Associate working on projects funded by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Walton Family Foundation to develop assessments of student and teacher social-emotional skills and emotional experiences. Beatris earned her B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2018 with degrees in Psychology and Agricultural and Consumer Economics. At Illinois, Beatris worked as a research assistant under Dr. R. Chris Fraley in the Attachment, Personality, and Emotion Lab where she assisted in the development of an original coding protocol to study interactions between intimate couples. Beatris also worked as a research assistant under Dr. Howard Berenbaum in the Emotion Lab where she wrote her senior thesis on the role of emotion regulation strategies in the Depression-Rumination relationship. In addition, she tutored for the America Reads/America Counts program for the entirety of her undergraduate career working in elementary classrooms and was awarded the Tutor of the Year award for the 2017-2018 school year. Beatris plans to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology with hopes of studying the role of emotion regulation in interpersonal functioning.
